AOSASF Programs
Annual Scholarship Program – The Foundation has made scholarships the foremost of our principal programs. The goal is to encourage academic excellence to high school students in Washington, DC. This annual event, occurring in May, awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors attending colleges and universities across the country. Cumulative scholarship awards over the years have exceeded $500,000.
Annual Talent Hunt Program – A national program designed to identify and support young students in the performing arts, many of whom have achieved national acclaim for their creative talents through their performance in the Talent Hunt program.
Mentoring – The mentoring program focuses on the academic, social skills, life skills and character improvement of disadvantage black male youth in Washington, DC. The mission is to close the achievement gap, reduce crime and violence, and empower black male youth to make intelligent, quality lifelong decisions. By sharing fun activities and exposing young men to new experiences, the mentoring program encourages positive choices, promotes high self-esteem, supports academic achievement, and introduce the youth to new ideas.
Food Distribution Programs – Our goal is to help alleviate hunger in our community. We partner with the DC Department of Child and Family Services, the Alpha Omega Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and Community Service Organizations to provide food and clothing for families at various times throughout the year. Over 2,000 families are served by this program.
Health Initiative – The Foundation coordinates with the DC Department of Health and other health organizations to provide health screening services to local communities. Our health Initiative’s objective is to coordinate and optimize the availability of health resources for minorities and their families through training, research, and health promotion activities. Our health initiative is designed to achieve two overarching goals; increase the quality of life and eliminate health disparities. Our focus programs are HIV/AIDS, cancer, diabetes and heart disease.
